The ASEM DUO scholarship programme promotes study exchanges between Belgium/Flanders and four Asian countries: China, India, South Korea and Vietnam. It is a DUO programme, which means that for every student from a Flemish higher education institution who leaves for Asia with an ASEM-DUO grant, a student from an Asian higher education institution will also come to Flanders.
Students from all disciplines can apply for this scholarship, but priority is given to those in the following areas of study:
- STEM studies (sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics);
- communication sciences;
- political and social sciences.
Student mobilities to the following destination countries are eligible:
- South Korea.
The total award of no more than €3 700 consists of a maximum amount of €2 600 for the scholarship and a fixed amount of €1 100 for travel costs.
Students from underrepresented groups will receive €800 in addition to the scholarship amount.
The duration of the mobility is one semester (four months).

Step 1: Submit your application for a study mobility to the international coordinator at your own higher education institution.
Step 2: Your higher education institution will pre-select you for a DUO application and link your candidacy to the application of an Asian student from a partner institution in one of the participating countries.
Step 3: If your DUO file is selected, your higher education institution will submit your application to the Flemish Higher Education Council (VLUHR).
Step 4: A qualified board of jury members will perform an external selection based on:
- motivation letter;
- transcript of records;

- recommendation by the Flemish higher education institution
- learning agreement.
The 18 best DUO application files will be selected for a grant.
