The Embassy of Japan in Belgium is currently accepting applications for the scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

Scholarship for Belgian students in Japan!

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) scholarship is a grant from the Japanese government for prospective international students living outside Japan. The scholarship is offered through the Embassy of Japan in Belgium, which conducts the application and selection procedure (document review, written exam and interview). After the selection procedure at the embassy, the final selected candidates are chosen in Tokyo and will travel to Japan the following year.

The scholarship covers:
(1) a return trip to Japan,
(2) tuition fees while studying in Japan and
(3) a fixed monthly living allowance.

The following two programmes are open for applications in Belgium.

  • Undergraduate programmes: enrolment at a Japanese four-year university to obtain a bachelor's degree (download flyer)
  • Research programmes: pursue a master's or doctoral programme at a Japanese institution of higher education and, in principle, obtain a master's or doctoral degree (download flyer).

This is a very attractive programme for those wishing to study in Japan for an extended period of time. The application deadline is Monday 5 June 2023. For student enquiries (including making an appointment to submit an application), please contact the representative by e-mail via info@bx.mofa.go.jp.
